[Softly taps glass with a spoon. Acknowledges guests with a warm smile]
Good evening, everyone. For those of you who don't know me, I'm Mark, and I've had the distinct honor of being David's best man, and even more importantly, his best friend, for over fifteen years. Standing here today, seeing David and Sarah so happy, is truly a privilege. [Pause. Looks at David and Sarah]
I first met David in college, back when our biggest worries were essay deadlines and whether the cafeteria was serving pizza. He's always been loyal, someone you could count on no matter what. I remember one disastrous attempt at DIY in our old apartment. David, ever the optimist, decided he could fix a leaky faucet himself. What followed was less a repair and more a minor indoor waterfall, quickly escalating into a frantic call to the landlord and a sheepish trip to the flower shop for Sarah, who had to deal with the aftermath. It showed his determination, even if sometimes misguided, and his eventual humility and thoughtfulness when it came to making things right, especially for Sarah. [Slight smile]
Now, David has many admirable qualities, but for a long time, culinary prowess wasn't one of them. Before Sarah came along, his signature dish was a chocolate chip cookie recipe that, despite his best efforts, consistently produced something closer to a hockey puck than a dessert. I remember one batch where we genuinely considered using them as doorstops. [Pause for laughter] Then Sarah entered his life. Sarah, with her incredible creativity and patience, not only brought sunshine into David’s world but also, mercifully, taught him the difference between baking soda and baking powder. Now, his cookies are actually edible, sometimes even delicious! Thank you, Sarah, for saving our taste buds and, more importantly, for making David a better man in every conceivable way.
Sarah, you are radiant, kind, and you possess a remarkable ability to find joy in everything. It’s clear to everyone here that you complete David. You balance his sometimes-stubborn determination with a calm grace, and you inspire him to be the best version of himself. The way you two met, bonding over vintage vinyl at that charity gala, was just the start of a beautiful harmony. Watching your journey together has been a real pleasure. You complement each other so perfectly, bringing out strengths neither of you knew you had.
[Looks at the couple, then addresses guests]
So, please join me in raising a glass to David and Sarah. To a lifetime of shared laughter, enduring love, and many, many more perfectly baked cookies. Cheers! [Raises glass, waits for others to raise theirs, sips]
